Product Function
- Bipolar Electrode:
- In a bipolar electrosurgical device, both the active and neutral (return) electrodes are located on the same instrument (such as forceps). The electrical current passes between the two tips of the instrument, affecting only the tissue between them.
- Wired Connection:
- The “with wire” aspect refers to the connection of the bipolar instrument to the electrosurgical generator. The wire transmits electrical current to the instrument and completes the circuit without the need for a separate neutral electrode on the patient’s skin.
- No Dispersive Pad Needed:
- Unlike in monopolar systems, a separate, large neutral electrode (like a dispersive pad) is not needed because the electrical current does not travel through the patient’s body to a distant return electrode. Instead, it stays confined between the two poles (active and neutral) of the bipolar instrument.
Advantages of Bipolar Systems
- Localized Current: The electrical current is confined to the tissue between the two electrodes, minimizing the risk of burns or damage to surrounding tissue.
- No Need for a Separate Neutral Electrode: Since the circuit is self-contained within the instrument, there’s no need to place a large neutral electrode on the patient.
- Enhanced Precision: Bipolar devices offer more precise control, which is ideal for delicate surgeries, especially in neurosurgery, ophthalmology, and microsurgery.
Warning
- This is a disposable product – do not re-use.
- The product is supplied not sterile – do not sterilize.
- Do not re-position or cut the plate, do not add gel.
- Do not use the product in case:
- The packaging is not complete,
- There are evident damages on the plate or on the connection cable, Gel is not homogeneous or is dry.
- Do not submit a patient with implanted pacemaker to electrosurgical current without first consulting a cardiologist.
- The devices are to be used by trained healthcare professionals in electrosurgical procedures.
- Do not use paediatric plates for high-power procedures (such as trans-urethral resection – TUR).
